President Bush

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

I've never claimed to like President Bush or approve of the he's done in the White House, but he's a funny dude. Below are some of the more entertaining (read: idiotic) things he's said of throughout his presidency:
  • "Information is moving -- you know, nightly news is one way, of course, but it's also moving through the blogosphere and through the Internets."
  • "Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."
  • "You work three jobs? … Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that."
  • "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
  • "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
  • "They misunderestimated me."
  • "Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?"
  • "Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a — you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities."
  • "I couldn't imagine somebody like Osama bin Laden understanding the joy of Hanukkah."
  • I'm the master of low expectations."
  • "I wish you'd have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it…I'm sure something will pop into my head here in the midst of this press conference, with all the pressure of trying to come up with answer, but it hadn't yet….I don't want to sound like I have made no mistakes. I'm confident I have. I just haven't you just put me under the spot here, and maybe I'm not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one."
  • "I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace."
  • "If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."
  • "I'm the commander — see, I don't need to explain — I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president."

I love President Bush...we are to respect him and give him our full support. Kudos to Bush.

I disagree.

We are to respect the office of the President. It is, after all, the most important among a bunch of public service positions.

Respecting the President does not mean there should be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong. That expectation is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.

If one were to say "President Bush is a complete and utter idiot", one would still be respecting the office.

After re-reading my response 'morally treasonable' may be slightly too pointed, but I still stand by my position.

And perhaps one should say..."George Bush is an idiot" opposed to addressing him in that instance as the President.

It's no fun if you don't say anything.
