25 And Older Crew, Please Step Into My E-Office

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

**offers you a seat**

Can I get you some coffee, tea or water or something? No? Are you sure I can't get you anything? We have soda, too. No? OK. I won't press you.

**takes a sip of my Folgers and slides the cup to the left**

I asked you to come in today because I've been wanting to chat with you about something and I feel now is as good a time as any.

**slides frames to the bridge of my nose**

As 2008 nears its end, my 25th birthday continues to approach more rapidly. I'm not one of those people who freak out at the notion of turning 25, but I do have to admit it's making me some kind of way. What's weird, for me at least, is that I can't remember ever thinking about growing older before now.

Is it odd for me to feel odd/antsy about the not-so-big 25?

**takes off specs, places them on desk and awaits your response**

I'll come into your office if you'll come into mine. Just kidding. Age is relative. I'll be 32 this year, but I look and feel about 10 years younger (I'm tooting my own horn, I know). It does feel strange. Funny story: When I was in graduate school a few years ago, most of my colleagues were in their early or mid 20s. Since people never believe my age, I am often compelled to show them my license. One of my friends looked at it and said "Dude, you're old as fuck!" Given the epidemic our community is facing, it's an honor to grow older.

Bitch, I'm turning 40 in '09...no pity parties from me....enjoy your twenties pa...they're a special time. Give it up, be safe and you'll be smiling well into your 70s.

You have every right about feeling some kinda way about turning 25. Oddly, when I turned 27 I felt that was the turning point for me. For some reason I felt like "damn! 27", but I got over it as you will get over turning 25.

Keep living my friend.

Turning 25 was just another age for me. It came and went without a hitch. And I agree with That Dude Right There...turning 30 on the other hand was different. I had to sadly wave goodbye to my 20s lol, but oh well. (Ironically, people still can't believe I'm 30.) Just keep enjoying life, no matter how old you are.

Brotha man, puhleese. LOL!! You still got Similac on the breath.

I remember turning 25 and partied my ass off. I was richer than I was at 20 and still had 5 more years to enjoy my 20s.

If you think 25 is hard then try 30. But my mom gave me the best advice:

Each year try to be better than the year before and you will never age ungracefully.

25 is a good year - but take it from me - 30 seems like she comes quick as hell!

Well if you think you are antsy about turning 25, imagine how I feel about turning 30 in a couple of days!! May you have a safe and happy New Years!!!

Yeah, the first thing I heard on my 25th birthday was a voicemail from a friend saying, "Happy Birthday. You are now a 1/4 century old!" I was like, "Damn! When you put it like that!"--- But you know what, I laughed it off and honestly got happier as the years have progressed. With age, in my case, has come respect and self-assurance.

At 30, I feel like I am on a roll and in control. I think your feelings are warranted and many of us feel them at that age.

I do agree with an earlier comment though, for me, things REALLY began to come together at 27... I really started thinking about the REST of my life at that age... hmmm...

Mmmm 25 ain't shit. Just be thankful that you're not stubling thru your twenties like some of these insipid American Debutants ($50 bucks if you can tell me what movie that phrase came from. LoL)!
